A Sneak Peek into Valley of Flowers
The Valley of Flowers National Park, located in the West Himalayan region of Chamoli district, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and outstanding natural beauty. Spanning 87.50 sq km at an altitude of 3,352-3,658 meters, the valley is home to over 600 species of flowering plants, including rare and endangered ones like the Brahmakamal and Blue Poppy. Discovered by mountaineer Frank S. Smythe in 1931, the valley opens only from June to October when it transforms into a riot of colors. The trek to the valley starts from Govindghat via Ghangaria (the base camp), and nearby Hemkund Sahib makes it a popular combined trek.
